World Hepatitis Day


The 1st of October is World Hepatitis Awareness Day (WHAD).

After several years of collaborative working, the International HCV Patient Advocacy Group and the European Liver Patient Association succeeded in securing official recognition for the awareness day from the World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Office for Europe.

  
   
The European section of the WHO agreed to support international patient groups to raise awareness of viral hepatitis, particularly hepatitis B and C. Sir Bob Geldof similarly added his support which we hope will continue on an annual basis. Sir Bob Geldof, the WHO (Regional Office for Europe), international patient organisations and ELPA launched World Hepatitis Awareness Day 2006 at a global media event in Copenhagen with leaders in hepatitis healthcare. Sir Bob participated through a video release which is available as a flash movie or transcript from the official WHAD web site.
